The Documentation Engineer helps extend the documentation platform and write new documentation for customers. You will sit within the Developer Experience (DevX) team, working with Product teams to write code and build tooling, as well as produce reference content, integration guides, and developer-facing copy.
What you'll do
- Write reference documentation, integration guides, tutorials, and product documentation
- Work in tandem with the current documentation engineer to find new ideas and solutions to current challenges
- Co-own the pipeline from OpenAPI spec to published API reference: validation, transformation, and deployment
- Build and maintain the scripts and CI jobs
- Reduce manual work for the technical writing team through tooling and process improvements
- Make deliberate decisions about how documentation is structured for AI agent consumption, not only human readers
- Contribute to OpenAPI spec quality by working with writers and engineers on field naming, example coverage, and schema structure
What you'll need
- Developer empathy. You approach and write docs to increase an integrating engineer's efficiency. You can produce clear, accurate content, not just tooling around it
- You can write code without AI as a crutch. You write scripts, debug error output, and ship working solutions independently
- Comfort with JavaScript/TypeScript. Our tooling uses it throughout
- Fluency with CI/CD pipelines
- Experience working with or reading OpenAPI 3.x specifications
- Clear understanding of what makes documentation machine-readable, not only human-readable
- Practical experience with AI tools, especially Claude. You use them daily and know how to prompt for useful output
What they offer
- 1,000 EUR annual learning budget and free German language courses
- 30 days of annual leave, plus extra paid days for your birthday and moving day
- Home office setup budget and monthly home office allowance
- Work from abroad for up to 90 days worldwide
- Mental health support with nilo.health and discounted Urban Sports Club membership
- 20% company subsidy on pension contributions
