Backend Engineer - Banking

As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Banking domain at lemon.markets, you will design and own reliable, scalable backend services that keep money moving safely and efficiently for our partners and their customers. You will build and operate systems across settlements, payments, and ledger accuracy, ensuring execution with partners is correct, cash flows are fast and reliable, and reconciliation reflects reality.

What you'll do

• Design and implement highly scalable REST APIs and backend services for banking operations
• Build and operate systems across settlements, payments, and ledger accuracy
• Take end-to-end ownership in a cross-functional team, ensuring operational compliance meets regulatory and contractual SLAs
• Track partner-visible incidents that could affect trust and assets under custody
• Make architectural decisions and contribute to core Platform & Systems development
• Guide other engineers via code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable code

What you'll need

• Write well-structured, maintainable and well-tested code in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Go, Java, Ruby, JavaScript or TypeScript
• Experience designing and implementing highly scalable architecture and reliable REST APIs
• Good experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and architectural patterns for these environments
• Good understanding of document-based or relational database technology such as MySQL/PostgreSQL
• Track record of designing, building and operating reliable and scalable backend systems as part of a cross-functional team
• Ready and willing to take ownership of problems and act on them decisively with no supervision

Nice to have

• Prior experience in a Fintech or financial service provider
• Background in a startup or similar lean organization
