AI Engineer - Data

This is the first dedicated AI Engineer in the data team: a hands-on, build-and-ship role with unusually broad scope, right at the core of how the product works. You'll own the AI behind the rewards engine and take open-ended AI problems end to end across the data org, from payer structures to user acquisition and beyond.

What you'll do

• Create the next generation of reward design system fully agentically, with AI looking into games, generating tailored offers, and evaluating them before they go live.
• Take fuzzy "could AI help here?" problems, deeply understand the underlying business logic and turn them into shipped agentic systems, working directly with Staff Data Scientists, the CTO, and leadership.
• Build genuinely agentic systems: agents, pipelines, retrieval and evaluation, deciding where AI belongs and where it doesn't.
• Set the standard for how AI gets built at Almedia through patterns, tooling and judgement that AI-fluent data scientists across the team adopt.

What you'll need

• Own everything and take initiative: take AI problems from a vague brief to a shipped, working system without being asked.
• Move fast: start before you're ready, ship the small test, and iterate against real data.
• Know when not to reach for AI and can name the simpler thing you chose instead to protect what mattered most.
• Be AI-native: agents, LLM pipelines, RAG and modern AI tooling are already part of how you build.
• Code in Python and have shipped something genuinely agentic — an agent, an LLM pipeline, or at minimum a real RAG system — that got used, with solid engineering or applied-ML foundations underneath.
• Bonus: adtech, marketplaces, recommendations/ranking, or high-scale consumer products experience.
