Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be a key member of Blacklane's legal team. This person will serve as a business-oriented advisor, counseling on issues of importance to the company, including being a key partner to the General Counsel in setting and implementing Blacklane's overall go-to-market and legal and regulatory compliance strategy.
What you'll do
- Serve as a core member of and trusted advisor to the General Counsel and other members of the executive leadership, helping align legal, regulatory and go-to-market priorities with Blacklane's strategic and commercial objectives.
- Serve as product counsel, advising on legal compliance, product design, go-to-market strategies and terms and conditions. Partner closely with commercial, marketing, operations and product teams to structure and execute compliant go-to-market initiatives.
- Provide clear, timely advice to business, product and tech teams on commercial, regulatory, consumer protection and other relevant legal issues, including managing pre-litigation disputes where needed.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of complex commercial and technology agreements.
- Develop and implement scalable legal tools and processes, including playbooks, templates, fallback positions, and training materials to support a growing, global business.
- Oversee regulatory compliance matters, including managing regulatory relationships and interfacing with key regulators, as needed.
What you'll need
- Admission to practice law in an EU member state or membership in a U.S. state bar, achieved with excellent results.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience, ideally obtained in a well-regarded, international firm or in-house environment.
- Ability to provide legal and regulatory guidance on transportation matters and go-to market strategies, proactively identifying associated risks, recommending mitigation strategies, and documenting advice.
- Ability to thrive in an environment of change and ambiguity in the law, and to translate regulatory and legal uncertainty into clear, practical guidance for business stakeholders.
- Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple assignments simultaneously and effectively managing conflicting priorities.
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
