About the role
Lead the Supply engineering team – the team that owns the talent side of our marketplace. Your team of 5-7 engineers builds the experience our Zenjobbers use to discover, book, and get paid for jobs, and the services that keep the supply side of the marketplace healthy. This is a player-coach role: you lead through people but stay close enough to the code to guide architecture decisions, unblock the team, and keep the technical bar high.
What you'll do
- Lead, coach, and grow a cross-functional team of full-stack engineers – owning their development, engagement, and performance
- Own delivery for the Supply domain: shape the roadmap with your product partner, break down complex initiatives, and ensure the team ships predictably and with quality
- Engage deeply with the product: question assumptions, challenge proposals, and bring ideas of your own – constructively, and always with the business impact in mind
- Stay hands-on: guide system design and architecture decisions, review code where it matters, and contribute when it accelerates the team
- Drive operational excellence – monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement of the team's engineering practices
- Hire and onboard engineers as the team evolves, and contribute to engineering-wide initiatives beyond your team
What you'll need
- Several years of experience leading software engineers as a people manager, ideally in a product-led B2C or marketplace environment
- A strong technical foundation: you've worked as a senior engineer yourself and can credibly engage on architecture, code, and technical trade-offs
- Comfort with our stack: we build in TypeScript across both backend and frontend, with some older services still in Java and Groovy
- A product mindset: you care about outcomes over output and know how to connect engineering work to user and business impact
- Experience growing engineers across levels – coaching, feedback, and performance management
- Pragmatism in balancing delivery speed, quality, and maintainability
- Fluent English (our company language); German is a plus
What they offer
- 28 days of paid vacation (increased by 1 day for every 2 calendar years, up to 30 days), plus 5 days of paid educational leave
- Hybrid working model: work remotely up to 2 days per week (1 day during first 6 months)
- Annual training budget of EUR 1,000 and mentoring opportunities
- EUR 40 monthly credit for NAVIT sustainable mobility
- Urban Sports Club grant of EUR 30 per month and office sports room
- Quarterly team events, winter and summer parties
