About the role
As Gropyus moves into the next phase of scaling up, we anticipate our Data growing rapidly. We're looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Data Governance professional to join the Data and AI vertical. This role reports directly to the Head of Data and AI and will act as a high-level individual contributor as well as a strategic thought partner for the Data Leadership team and partners across Gropyus.
What you'll do
- Define, develop, implement and maintain the data governance framework, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Contribute to the strategy of the Data Team including proposing and leading governance initiatives for both team roadmaps and potentially the larger company operational milestone.
- Drive to best practices in data management including Data contracts, SOPs, retention, and access control.
- Lead and report on data quality initiatives: metrics, monitoring, remediation, profiling, and continuous improvement.
- Drive improvements to our Data Catalog and metadata management within Tech.
- Support or lead tool selection/implementation for potential additional Data Quality tooling.
- Identify and help manage data-related risks; collaborate on audits and compliance reviews.
- Work closely with our Governance, Risk & Compliance, Information Security, and Corporate IT teams to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Management, Information Assurance, Computer Science, IT or related fields.
- Significant, specialized experience (5+ years) in data governance, data quality, data management.
- Experience with data governance frameworks & best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, data stewardship models).
- Strong knowledge of data quality dimensions and tools; ability to define, measure, monitor, remediate data quality.
- Good understanding of data architecture, data modeling, metadata management, data lineage.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management skills; ability to influence, negotiate, collaborate cross-teams.
- Proficient in working with regulatory and legal data/privacy requirements (e.g. GDPR, EU AI Act).
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with one or more data governance tools/platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Talend, data catalogs, metadata tools).
- Past projects or familiarity with Ontologies, OWL and Semantic languages.
- Familiarity with Data Fabric or Data Mesh frameworks.
- Experience with highly complex, dynamic domains (Construction, Consulting, or Health Care).
