Engineering Manager Scheduling Team

Contract
Full-Time

Engineering Manager for the Scheduling team in Berlin. Your mission will be to give practitioners their day back: reclaiming the admin time they spend creating and managing appointments, so care teams can focus on what matters. You will work in a feature team developing scheduling infrastructure and booking experiences, contributing directly to a platform that books billions of appointments a year for health professionals and patients across Europe.

What you'll do

  • Lead a team of 6 to 7 engineers of mixed seniority, owning delivery, quality and production health end to end — keeping engagement high and standards higher
  • Together with your product partner, define the mission and vision for your team and build a roadmap you can defend to stakeholders
  • Take part in architecture reviews and help shape the technical direction of the Scheduling stream, including the migration of core scheduling capabilities from the monolith into purpose-built services
  • Set and uphold the security, reliability, performance and scalability standards required to remain the most trusted e-health SaaS in Europe
  • Partner with Talent and People teams to recruit, develop and retain engineers through career conversations and feedback they can act on
  • Embed AI-assisted engineering into how your team works day to day, with a clear and honest view of where it helps and where it does not
  • Continuously improve how the team operates — planning, on-call, bug backlog, incident follow-up — so the team spends its energy on what moves the needle

What you'll need

  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience and 3 years of engineering management experience, including leading a team of 5+ engineers through delivery, hiring and growth
  • Credibility with senior backend engineers — distributed systems, data modelling, latency and throughput are conversations you can hold and challenge; you stay close enough to the code to review a pull request, without needing to be the one writing it
  • Hands-on experience modernising a large legacy system, ideally extracting services from a monolith, and know how to keep a team delivering while the ground moves
  • Effective communicator who can translate company goals into team objectives, and who says the uncomfortable thing early rather than late
  • Think critically and objectively, with a solution-oriented approach that brings people with you

Nice to have

  • Experience in a regulated industry such as healthcare or fintech, where privacy and data protection shape design decisions
  • Navigation of hyper-growth environments and understanding of the trade-offs they force on architecture and team organisation
  • Considered view on AI coding assistants — their real benefits and their real shortcomings

What they offer

  • Deutschlandticket (Germany-wide public transport pass) fully paid for by Doctolib
  • 28 vacation days + 1 additional day for each full calendar year of employment (up to a maximum of 30 days)
  • Work from abroad for up to 10 days per year
  • Company health insurance with supplementary benefits through Allianz
  • Company pension scheme (bAV) with 40% employer subsidy
  • Free mental health and coaching services through Moka.care
