About the role

Join SumUp's Mobile Platform Squad as a Senior Android Engineer and become a cornerstone of our rapidly expanding Android ecosystem. You will be instrumental in building the robust foundation that enables over 40 Android engineers to operate with maximum productivity and efficiency, directly shaping the future of mobile payments for millions of merchants.

What you'll do

  • Lead the charge in shaping the core experience for both merchants and our internal Android developers, directly contributing to SumUp's ambitious Android product roadmap.
  • Architect, develop, and maintain critical tools, frameworks, and infrastructure that significantly enhance the consistency, scalability, and reliability of our mobile apps.
  • Spearhead initiatives in CI/CD systems, advanced developer tooling, and performance optimizations to dramatically streamline mobile development processes and reduce build times.
  • Proactively tackle technical debt, improve code health, and introduce best practices to a complex, mature codebase.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship, fostering a culture of excellence and knowledge sharing across our Android engineering chapter.
  • Own critical technical projects from ideation through to successful implementation and impact measurement.

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience, with a proven track record in Kotlin and modern Android frameworks.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Fastlane) and a passion for solving build time challenges and improving deployment efficiency at scale.
  • A deep understanding of testing methodologies, modern architecture, and design patterns, coupled with a strategic mindset to balance immediate needs with long-term architectural vision.
  • A genuine passion for developer experience, with a history of creating impactful tools and improving workflows for large engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to navigate, understand, and significantly improve complex, mature, and often unowned codebases.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a natural ability to mentor and guide other engineers, effectively communicating complex technical concepts across diverse teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience with modularized codebases, building and maintaining internal tooling, or SDK development in a multi-product environment.

What they offer

  • Annual L&D budget of €2,000 for conferences or further education.
  • Enrolment onto VSOP program — ownership stake in SumUp's future success.
  • Corporate pension scheme with up to 20% contribution matching.
  • 30-day sabbatical after 3 years of employment.
  • Urban Sports Club subsidy, Kita placement assistance, relocation assistance, subsidised office lunches.
