About the role

As the leader of our Data Platform team, you'll play a pivotal role in Scalable Capital's data journey. Your team is at the heart of our data infrastructure, responsible for improving, extending, and automating our scalable data platform. The team also operates critical data pipelines powering product features as well as regulatory reporting. We are looking for a hands-on leader who is able to evolve our data platform and best practices.

What you'll do

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of data engineers.
  • Own the architecture, development, and operation of our data platform and pipelines, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Automate platform operations and streamline data workflows to increase efficiency and minimize manual intervention.
  • Act as the first point of contact for other data engineering teams on topics like platform usage, data modeling, pipeline design, and general data engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to set standards and champion data engineering excellence across the organization incl. security concepts.
  • Remain hands-on: Together with your team you will architect, code, review, and deploy critical data infrastructure solutions.
  • Drive adoption of modern tooling (including GenAI-assisted coding) while applying critical thinking to recommendations and outputs.

What you'll need

  • University degree in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, or a similar field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience building, improving, and operating data platforms in high-volume environments.
  • Expert level SQL, dbt and Python.
  • Skilled using Infrastructure as Code: e.g., Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
  • Expertise in AWS Cloud, especially data-native services (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift etc.) and security features like IAM, KMS and networking.
  • Workflow orchestration experience: e.g., Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or similar.
  • Deep knowledge of Software Engineering best practices — from requirements specification, version control, CI/CD, and testing to deployment and monitoring.
  • First experience acting as team or tech lead.

Nice to have

  • Containerization: Docker; Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Comfortable leveraging GenAI-assisted coding while maintaining high standards and thoughtful code reviews.

What they offer

  • Individual Education Budget and in-house knowledge sharing and career development sessions.
  • Flexible vacation policy and the opportunity to work from abroad.
  • Attractive compensation package and company pension scheme.
  • Monthly contribution of 50% for the Deutschland Jobticket.
  • International relocation support if required.
  • Flexible and discounted sports activities with Urban Sports Club.
