About the role

You'll design, build, and optimize mechatronic systems that integrate mechanical assemblies, electrical controls, and sensor technology into seamless production solutions. You'll work at the intersection of our mechanical and automation engineering teams—turning concepts into reliable, high-performing equipment for our Berlin-based production facilities.

What you'll do

  • Maintain and optimize integrated mechatronic systems combining mechanical components, electrical drives, sensors, and control logic for food processing applications. Ensure seamless interaction between mechanical assemblies and automation systems, and lead the integration of new equipment into existing production lines.
  • Program and configure PLC-based control systems, improve HMI interfaces, and implement sensor-driven process control strategies.
  • Create mechanical designs for custom production equipment. Build and test prototypes, validate design performance, and iterate based on production feedback and food safety requirements.
  • Support the commissioning of new and modified production equipment. Diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, and energy efficiency. Implement sensor-based monitoring solutions and contribute to predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and system specifications.

What you'll need

  • A qualification in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a completed apprenticeship with a further "Techniker" qualification in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in mechatronic or interdisciplinary engineering roles in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across mechanical design (CAD), electrical engineering (schematics, wiring), and control systems (PLC programming). Proven experience with Structured Text (ST) and Ladder Logic (LD).
  • Experience selecting, integrating, and calibrating industrial sensors and actuators. Familiarity with common industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, Profinet, IO-Link).
  • Understanding of European and German electrical regulations (VDE, DIN, IEC standards) and machinery safety requirements (Machinery Directive, CE marking).
  • Strong communication skills in both English and German.

Nice to have

  • Experience in food production, FMCG, or other hygiene-critical industries.
  • Direct experience with Beckhoff (TwinCAT 3).
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, Elektrofachkraft (EFK) status according to DIN VDE 1000-10 and DGUV V3.
