Principal Engineer

About the role

As a Principal Engineer, your mission is to advance PPRO's global payments platform by driving technical innovation, creating scalable solutions, and ensuring robust architecture. This role supports PPRO's strategy by enabling secure, reliable, and efficient payment infrastructure, directly impacting customer success and PPRO's market leadership.

What you'll do

• Design and develop scalable, high-performance systems using Java/Kotlin in the AWS ecosystem.
• Champion engineering best practices, ensuring the platform's reliability and resilience.
• Partner with cross-functional teams—Product, Partnerships, and Compliance—to deliver impactful solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering a culture of growth, innovation, and collaboration.
• Own end-to-end code quality, deployment processes, and monitoring in production environments.
• Advocate for continuous improvement, driving decisions through data and metrics to align engineering outcomes with business goals.
• Pioneer technical strategies that position PPRO as a leader in payments innovation.
• Ensure sustainable, high-velocity delivery while maintaining system reliability and performance excellence.

What you'll need

• Proven experience designing and building distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Expertise in Java/Kotlin development and AWS services (e.g., EKS, Kinesis, SQS, DynamoDB, RDS).
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and guiding engineering teams.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
• A data-driven approach to problem-solving and decision-making in a fast-paced environment.
• Background in API security standards and data handling best practices.

Nice to have

• Experience in the payments industry, including familiarity with PCI-DSS compliance and payment gateways.
