Design and evolve the frontend platform foundations that power n8n's workflow-building experience, enabling product engineers and the open-source community to ship complex, reliable, and high-performance user experiences across cloud and self-hosted deployments.
What you'll do
- Own and evolve core frontend platform primitives that make n8n's workflow builder scalable, extensible, and maintainable.
- Strengthen platform contracts such as plugin systems, extension points, and frontend developer experience.
- Help modularize a large, evolving frontend codebase so product teams can build confidently on top of shared foundations.
- Work on the architecture behind n8n's canvas-based workflow building experience.
- Build and improve real-time collaboration capabilities using approaches such as WebSockets, CRDTs, or multiplayer synchronization patterns.
- Improve rendering performance, runtime behavior, and responsiveness across complex workflow-building experiences.
- Drive technical decisions through clear proposals, RFCs, and collaborative engineering discussions.
- Support peers through code reviews, pairing, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
What you'll need
- You've built architecture-heavy frontend products such as canvas-based tools, real-time applications, collaborative editors, or similarly complex interfaces.
- You can measure, debug, and improve runtime performance in large frontend applications.
- You have strong TypeScript frontend experience and are comfortable working in a large, evolving codebase.
- You've owned meaningful frontend systems, led migrations, or re-architected complex areas of a product.
- You think in trade-offs, correctness, platform contracts, maintainability, and long-term scalability.
- You communicate clearly, work cross-functionally, and enjoy enabling other engineers rather than building in isolation.
Nice to have
- You have experience with CRDTs, multiplayer systems, collaborative editors, or real-time communication layers.
- You've worked with plugin systems, extension architectures, micro-frontends, or web worker orchestration.
- You have experience with Vue or are excited to work deeply in a Vue-based frontend codebase.
- You've contributed to or maintained open-source software and understand public API contracts and backward compatibility.
- You've worked on workflow engines, developer tools, infrastructure-adjacent SaaS, or other technical products.
- You've worked on systems with meaningful scale, complexity, or long-term maintainability challenges.
What they offer
- Competitive compensation.
- Ownership and equity.
- 30 days of vacation (Europe).
- Remote-first working environment.
- Visa sponsorship available for Germany.
