About the role
As the Associate Director of Engineering - RevTech, you will be the founding engineering leader of a brand-new domain at Flink. Paired with the VP of Revenue, you will shape the technical vision, hire and grow the teams, and deliver the systems that directly drive Flink's gross profit and assortment relevance. This is a rare opportunity to build a domain from the ground up inside a company with real scale, real customers, and real urgency.
What you'll do
- Lead the RevTech engineering organization across multiple product teams — including Assortment, Master Data & ERP, Pricing & Promotions, and Commercial Back-office.
- Partner with the VP of Revenue to own the domain roadmap, prioritize across teams, balance build-vs-buy decisions, and ensure engineering investment maps tightly to commercial outcomes.
- Hire and develop engineering managers and engineers, including an EM for Pricing & Promotions, backend and frontend engineers, and a data scientist.
- Manage the relationship with an external development partner, ensuring quality, architecture alignment, and a clean path to internalization.
- Define the technical strategy across a greenfield-meets-brownfield context — shared APIs, data contracts, service boundaries, and on-call practices.
- Champion AI and automation across the commercial stack, from data-driven assortment engines and automated pricing to product data enrichment and demand forecasting.
- Represent engineering in commercial conversations with Revenue, Marketing, and Supply Chain stakeholders.
- Navigate a matrix organization, working closely with Engineering Directors in Consumer Tech, Operations Tech, and Platform to maintain cross-domain standards.
What you'll need
- 8+ years in software engineering with at least 3–4 years leading teams of teams (engineering managers reporting to you).
- Experience building or significantly scaling an engineering organization, ideally in a product-driven company.
- Strong point of view on how AI, ML, and modern automation can transform commercial operations, and ability to move from experiment to production.
- Experience standing up new teams or domains — energized by ambiguity, comfortable defining scope and structure.
- Technically credible: able to review architecture decisions, challenge technical trade-offs, and engage in system design, data modeling, API contracts, and service reliability discussions.
- Commercially minded: comfortable working with concepts like gross profit, margin optimization, assortment logic, and retail media.
- Experience working with external development agencies or outsourced teams while maintaining quality and architectural coherence.
