Working Student Data Engineer - Data & Platform Engineering

About the role

We're looking for a Working Student Data Engineer to join our Data & Platform Engineering team at HeyJobs, an AI-driven recruitment platform. You'll support operational initiatives, work on data engineering tasks, and help build reliable data platforms and AWS-based infrastructure. This role offers a clear path to full-time employment after graduation.

What you'll do

• Support hands-on data operations including onboarding/offboarding, helpdesk tickets, and bug fixes
• Handle low-medium complexity data engineering and platform work, leveraging GenAI
• Identify and implement end-to-end automation opportunities using GenAI
• Support team rituals, planning, and stakeholder management
• Organize workload and communicate priorities and challenges
• Maintain clear documentation and playbooks for technical and non-technical audiences
• Translate technical concepts into business-friendly insights
• Own problems end-to-end from identifying opportunities to delivering production data products

What you'll need

• Active enrollment at a German university in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Working knowledge of SQL and general software development
• Experience with AWS or other cloud providers
• Strong interest in data and data platform engineering
• Motivation to grow into a Product Engineer for Data & Platform Engineering
• Availability to work 3-4 days per week on an ongoing basis
• Proactive, fast learner with problem-solving mindset
• Familiarity with Agile ways of working and tools like Jira, Confluence, and GitHub
• Strong communication skills in English

Nice to have

• Prior experience in software, infrastructure, or technical product/project roles
• Experience with Docker and container platforms (e.g. ECS)
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Experience in vendor management or contract negotiations
