Director of Software Engineering

About the role

We're looking for experienced Directors of Engineering to lead key business domains as we scale. You'll guide technical strategy while building empowered teams that deliver real impact for our mission of making solar energy accessible to everyone. The three domains are: Customer Acquisition (lead and sales lifecycle), Enablement (creating valid offers and proposals), and Lifecycle (customer lifecycle, product configuration and communication).

What you'll do

• Set technical direction for domain-level integration between teams and external systems
• Lead and mentor a group of Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers
• Review RFCs, guide architectural decisions and help shape bounded contexts as we evolve our system landscape
• Work as equals with product counterparts to align on domain north star and system landscape
• Lead pragmatic improvements in engineering practices, including incident response, security posture, and end-user experience
• Balance immediate business needs with long-term technical health
• Scale teams thoughtfully as the domain grows 30–50% over the next 12 months

What you'll need

• Experience as an individual contributor for a significant part of career, being able to reason about systems and integrations on the level of an experienced senior engineer
• 3+ years managing multiple engineering teams (3+ teams, 20+ engineers total) and managing managers
• Track record of scaling teams and processes in high-growth environments
• Experience with microservices architecture, cloud infrastructure, and integration patterns
• Strong planning and execution skills with focus on business impact over technical novelty
• Demonstrated success in stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
• Strong communication skills in English (German is a plus)
• Passion for renewable energy and sustainable technology
