About the role
This is a hands-on VP of Technology position leading up to 10 engineers while remaining deeply involved in architecture and performance optimization. You'll own the technical direction of Journee's real-time conversational AI platform that powers interactive experiences for enterprise clients like BMW, H&M, and Siemens.
What you'll do
- Own overall system architecture across conversational AI systems, voice/avatar pipelines, and developer platform APIs
- Drive cloud infrastructure strategy and ensure scalability, reliability, and enterprise-grade security
- Optimize real-time AI inference for latency, throughput, and cost efficiency
- Lead API architecture and SDK strategy for the developer platform
- Build scalable abstractions for agent creation and deployment
- Lead and mentor a team of up to 10 engineers across ML, backend, frontend, and infrastructure
- Attract and hire strong technical talent while setting culture of ownership and accountability
- Review architecture and critical code paths, prototype high-impact work
What you'll need
- 8-12+ years in engineering with leadership experience managing 5+ engineers
- Strong cloud architecture background (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and scalable backend architecture
- Experience running ML systems in production
- Strong full-stack understanding (backend + frontend)
- Experience working directly with founders
- Builder mentality with high ownership and execution energy
- Product-minded approach, comfortable with ambiguity

- Real-time/low-latency systems experience
- Building developer platforms or APIs at scale
