Senior Android Engineer - Mobile Platform

About the role

Join SumUp's Mobile Platform Squad as a Senior Android Engineer to build the foundation that enables over 40 Android engineers to deliver world-class mobile payment experiences. You'll be instrumental in eliminating bottlenecks, modernizing infrastructure, and ensuring product stability across SumUp's Android ecosystem.

What you'll do

• Lead strategic initiatives shaping core experiences for merchants and internal Android developers
• Architect, develop, and maintain critical tools, frameworks, and infrastructure for mobile apps
• Spearhead CI/CD system improvements and performance optimizations to reduce build times
• Tackle technical debt and improve code health in complex, mature codebases
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship across the Android engineering chapter
• Own critical technical projects from ideation through implementation and impact measurement

What you'll need

• 5+ years of professional Android development experience with Kotlin and modern frameworks
• Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Fastlane) and build optimization
• Deep understanding of testing methodologies, modern architecture, and design patterns
• Proven ability to navigate and improve complex, mature codebases
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to mentor other engineers
• Passion for developer experience and creating impactful tools for large engineering teams

Nice to have

• Experience with modularized codebases
• Background in building and maintaining internal tooling
• SDK development experience in multi-product environments
