About the role
As Head of Banking Law at N26, you will serve as the principal legal authority on German and European banking regulation, providing strategic counsel to senior leadership. This pivotal role combines banking law expertise, litigation oversight, and team leadership within Europe's dynamic fintech environment.
What you'll do
- Serve as lead subject matter expert on German banking law, payments regulation, and financial services legislation
- Direct litigation and dispute resolution strategy, managing significant proceedings at Landgericht level and above
- Coordinate litigation matters across Greater Europe region with external counsel and settlement decisions
- Advise senior leadership on legal dimensions of new products, partnerships, and market initiatives
- Develop and implement legal policies and governance frameworks for scalable growth
- Participate in high-stakes contract negotiations with customers, vendors, and financial partners
- Act as point of contact for regulatory authorities including BaFin and Bundesbank
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of legal professionals
What you'll need
- Full qualification as German lawyer with minimum 8 years post-qualification experience
- Experience from law firm, regulated fintech, digital bank, or financial institution
- Deep expertise in German banking and financial regulation
- Significant experience developing and executing complex litigation strategies
- Track record navigating regulatory investigations and compliance matters
- Understanding of corporate governance and enterprise risk management frameworks
- Fluency in both English and German
