About the role

We are seeking a high-caliber Functional Safety Engineer to serve as the definitive architect of system integrity for our autonomous driving platform. In this role, you will transcend traditional "fail-safe" methodologies to design and implement the fail-operational architectures required for Level 4 and Level 5 autonomy.

What you'll do

  • Safety Lifecycle Management: Directing the ISO 26262 process from concept to production, ensuring every phase of development meets functional safety requirements
  • HARA & ASIL Rating: Performing Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments to identify potential vehicle-level failures and assigning the appropriate Safety Integrity Levels (usually ASIL D)
  • Fail-Operational Architecture: Designing redundant systems for steering, braking, accelerating and compute to ensure the vehicle can safely reach a Minimal Risk Condition if a primary component fails
  • Safety Requirements Engineering: Translating high-level safety goals into technical specifications for hardware and software teams to implement
  • Predictive Analysis (FTA/FMEA): Conducting Fault Tree Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis to proactively identify and mitigate system vulnerabilities
  • Verification & Validation (V&V): Supporting the definition the testing strategy for all relevant testing levels to prove that for our level four driving system operate saferly
  • Safety Case Development: Compiling the formal evidence and documentation required to certify that the autonomous system is safe for public road deployment

What you'll need

  • Completed studies in the field of computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a comparable field of study
  • At least 5 years of experience in the field of functional safety, preferably in automotive or autonomous systems
  • Previous work in automotive product development and experience with hardware/software architectures, integration and testing
  • Strong understanding of ISO 26262, especially in the context of ASIL D systems
  • Confident use of the tool for safety analysis, requirements management, architecture modelling and GIT
