About the role
As a Staff LLM Interaction Engineer at n8n, you'll architect and build AI-powered workflow automation capabilities that help both technical and non-technical users create reliable AI workflows. You'll work on the orchestration layer between users, workflows, and LLMs to make the product feel fast, helpful, and trustworthy.
What you'll do
- Architect and implement AI-assisted workflow building capabilities including creation, editing, and suggestions
- Design systems that provide LLMs with the right context: workflow state, user intent, constraints, and history
- Build tool-driven agent behavior with internal tool calling, output validation, mistake correction, and graceful recovery
- Develop evaluation benchmarks and automated testing for AI output quality
- Create fast iteration loops to experiment, measure, and improve while shipping changes quickly with confidence
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and design teams to deliver a polished Copilot experience
- Stay current with LLM advances and AI developer tools to bring practical improvements into the product
What you'll need
- 7+ years of experience building web-based products, ideally SaaS developer tooling
- Strong fullstack engineering skills in TypeScript/Node.js and API design
- Hands-on experience building complex AI-powered product features in production
- Experience building tool-using AI systems or agentic workflows such as coding agents, AI copilots, or assistant systems
- Strong understanding of making LLM outputs reliable through prompt design, context optimization, and managing constraints
- Experience building or using evaluation frameworks for LLM-based systems including benchmarks and regression tests
- Product mindset with deep care for user outcomes and bias for action with quick iteration
Nice to have
- Experience with developer tools that generate code or structured output
- Familiarity with agent orchestration patterns, state machines, or DAG-based systems
- Experience with AI reliability tooling including trace/debug pipelines and LLM observability
- Contributions to open-source AI tooling for evals, orchestration, or prompt management
- Experience with RAG systems and retrieval patterns
