Drone Field Engineer

About the role

As a Field Engineer at Helsing, you will mature cutting-edge military AI products from proof-of-concept to large-scale rollout. You'll test combined software and hardware products throughout the development lifecycle, working closely with engineers, product managers, and end users to ensure products are safe and reliable.

What you'll do

• Test combined software and hardware products end-to-end in lab and field environments, including flying drones and capturing data
• Pack, transport, and set up equipment at test locations like airfields
• Install AI software onto edge computing devices using in-house deployment tools
• Design and improve test plans and safety standard operating procedures
• Define and secure resources for effective field testing operations, including hardware purchasing and establishing storage facilities
• Advise on training course design and in-service support procedures
• Travel to testing locations across the UK, France, Germany, and beyond

What you'll need

• Strong technical aptitude and natural curiosity to understand complex hardware and software systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration
• Natural problem-solving abilities with capacity to independently own critical workstreams
• Passion for protecting liberal democratic values through defense and security work

Nice to have

• Experience flying drones, especially fixed-wings, or possession of pilot licenses
• Experience testing software and/or hardware products at any stage of maturity
• Experience training end users on complex products or providing technical support
