Staff Engineer, Supply Tech (Backend Focused)

About the role

You'll be a Staff Engineer leading technical direction for GetYourGuide's Supply Tech group, which builds the platform that enables travel activity suppliers to deliver experiences at scale. This role involves setting technical strategy, driving cross-team execution on complex initiatives, and mentoring engineering teams while working closely with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders.

What you'll do

• Set technical direction and define target architecture for Supply Tech, including multi-quarter technical bets
• Lead cross-team execution on complex initiatives, managing dependencies and driving alignment
• Design and evolve scalable systems powering supplier-facing workflows like onboarding and catalog quality
• Raise engineering craftsmanship through improved reliability, observability, and operational excellence
• Translate business needs into technical strategy working with Product, Design, Data, and Commercial teams
• Build reusable patterns and platform primitives to improve team collaboration
• Champion AI-forward product delivery with safe deployment and responsible guardrails
• Mentor technical leaders and strengthen decision-making across the organization

What you'll need

• 8+ years software development experience with complex backend systems ownership
• Proven technical leadership experience setting direction and driving cross-team execution
• Proficiency in Java/Spring with ability to ship backend features end-to-end
• Strong background in scalable service-oriented and distributed architectures
• Experience with production microservices in cloud and Kubernetes environments
• Hands-on experience with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL) including performance optimization
• Experience designing APIs including GraphQL with focus on developer experience
• Team-oriented mindset with passion for mentoring and raising engineering standards
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

• Experience building backend platforms that create leverage across teams
• Background with workflow-heavy B2B/partner domains and operational tooling
• Experience building AI-assisted backend capabilities with evaluation and guardrails
• Experience with experimentation and measurement readiness
• Frontend contribution ability with TypeScript and Vue.js
