Staff Data Engineer

About the role

We're looking for an experienced Data Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate the infrastructure and pipelines that power Taxfix's data platform across Europe. You'll own the systems that move data from operational databases and APIs into our analytical environment, ensuring data is reliable, compliant, and ready for AI-powered product features.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain ingestion pipelines that capture changes from application databases, APIs, and SaaS tools
• Design data models with proper layering that handle real-world complexity like out-of-order events and schema evolution
• Own and evolve cloud platform infrastructure using GCP resources and Terraform
• Implement data quality monitoring, validation, and alerting systems
• Implement privacy and compliance controls including GDPR anonymization and deletion propagation
• Prepare governed, privacy-safe datasets and feature pipelines for ML and AI use cases
• Operate and improve orchestration layers with scheduling, retries, and SLA tracking
• Define engineering standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, and documentation
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies for data management and machine learning
• Mentor team members and contribute to technical discussions

What you'll need

• 6+ years of experience in Data Engineering or similar data-intensive systems role
• Strong Python skills for production data pipeline development
• Expert SQL skills with window functions, CTEs, and query optimization
• Experience with event-driven data pipelines, CQRS, and incremental processing
• Expert level experience with Airflow for building DAGs with proper dependencies
• Experience with Snowflake or BigQuery and understanding their architectures
• Cloud platform experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure at scale
• Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or similar tools
• Kubernetes and Docker containerization experience
• Data quality mindset with profiling, validation, and testing practices
• Understanding of data preparation for ML/AI including governance and privacy controls
• Awareness of data privacy requirements including GDPR and PII handling

Nice to have

• Track record of coaching and mentoring engineers
• Exposure to ML platforms like Vertex AI or SageMaker
• Hands-on ML experience with model training and deployment
• Experience with Segment.io or similar customer data platforms
• Advanced data modeling patterns like SCD Type 2 or data vault
• Advanced privacy engineering including differential privacy
• Domain knowledge in fintech, tax, or regulated industries
