About the role
You'll work as an Android Engineer in the Design System team, translating SumUp's design language into reusable UI components and patterns. This role focuses on building and maintaining a cohesive design system that enables product teams to deliver consistent, accessible experiences across SumUp's Android ecosystem.
What you'll do
- Shape the core experience of users and developers interacting with SumUp's Android ecosystem
- Work closely with product and design teams to build maintainable, usable, and consistent components
- Embed accessibility best practices into every component including content descriptions, touch targets, and color contrast
- Implement dynamic theming support for light/dark mode and brand variations that can be switched at runtime
- Provide hands-on technical support to product teams for company priorities like brand refresh
- Review code contributions, enforce design system conventions, and guide engineers on best practices
- Identify and address tech debt proactively to maintain engineering excellence
What you'll need
- 3+ years of professional Android development experience with expertise in Kotlin and modern Android frameworks
- 2+ years of experience working with Jetpack Compose
- Strong commitment to clean code and ability to balance pragmatism with perfection
- Strong grasp of testing best practices and writing resilient tests
- Strong eye for detail and commitment to accessibility
- Self-motivated with structured working style and good English communication skills
- Enthusiasm for staying current with Android ecosystem advancements
Nice to have
- Experience building and maintaining design systems or component libraries for Android
- Experience navigating complex codebases and refactoring existing code
- Experience working with Kotlin Multiplatform
