AI Research Engineer - Foundation Models

About the role

You will research, design, and train large-scale foundational models that transform complex multimodal sensor data into autonomous capabilities for defence applications. This role combines AI research with machine learning engineering, focusing on training and fine-tuning Vision-Language Models on custom datasets.

What you'll do

• Research, design, and train large-scale foundational models for multimodal sensor data
• Train and fine-tune Vision-Language Models on custom datasets to power different products
• Manage the entire model lifecycle from data curation and training to evaluation
• Write custom layers, loss functions, and distributed training loops
• Implement cutting-edge research from ArXiv papers into production codebase
• Contribute to the company's internal research culture and communicate complex theoretical concepts

What you'll need

• MSc or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or Mathematics with Deep Learning focus
• Theoretical understanding and practical experience training foundational models (LLMs, VLMs, multimodal models)
• Strong software engineering skills in Python and fluency with PyTorch/JAX frameworks
• Experience writing custom neural network components and distributed training systems
• Clear communication skills and ability to build from complex theoretical concepts
• First-principles mindset with passion for implementing latest research rapidly

Nice to have

• Publications in top-tier conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL) on attention mechanisms, efficient transformers, or multimodal learning
• Experience training models on large-scale GPU clusters
• Proven experience in data curation, cleaning, pruning, and building robust data pipelines for large-scale datasets
