Engineering Manager - Workflows

About the role

Engineering Manager role leading Contentful's Workflows team, which owns the Orchestration Platform powering workflow automation, approvals, tasks, and triggers. This is a high-impact platform role that accelerates product teams and improves foundational systems customers depend on daily.

What you'll do

• Build and support high-performing, globally distributed teams with a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
• Partner with Product and Design to shape and deliver roadmaps balancing near-term needs with long-term platform health
• Enable platform adoption across teams through clear interfaces, documentation, and migration support
• Evolve the orchestration platform to support approvals, tasks, triggers, and automation at scale
• Strengthen operational practices including on-call models, incident response, and reliability improvements
• Coach and develop engineers across levels, supporting growth and sustainable delivery habits
• Collaborate with AI Enablement teams to integrate AI-powered capabilities into workflows

What you'll need

• 2+ years managing cross-functional development teams and delivering complex solutions with Product and Design
• Experience with platform or foundational teams focused on adoption, stability, and documentation
• Technical breadth across modern web platforms and backend distributed systems
• Familiarity with event-driven distributed systems concepts like queues, orchestration, and workflow engines
• Strong quality mindset for platforms including observability, incident readiness, and safe rollout practices
• Product-minded approach to translate ideas into technical options and tradeoffs
• Strong collaboration skills across multiple stakeholders and teams
• People leadership experience including hiring, coaching, and creating inclusive environments

Nice to have

• Experience building workflow/automation platforms with strong operability requirements
• Familiarity with security/compliance considerations for systems executing actions and external integrations
• Experience with B2B SaaS and enterprise expectations
• Familiarity with modern AI-enabled product development
