About the role

You'll be a Lead Engineer in the Intelligent Operations Platforms or Assistance segments at N26, working on microservice architecture predominantly in Java and Kotlin using Spring Boot. You'll lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and directly impact product technical roadmaps while working on complex problems in a cross-functional team environment.

What you'll do

  • Work with PM and EM to manage product technical roadmaps and minimize technical debt
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-availability, high-performance web applications
  • Drive healthy engineering practices, writing clean, well-tested code and shipping to production frequently
  • Implement new features and integrations with foundational models and automation systems
  • Optimize, measure and monitor distributed systems for continuous software delivery
  • Mentor team members through code reviews, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing
  • Lead initiatives to improve company-wide engineering culture and team effectiveness
  • Participate in recruitment and employer brand projects

What you'll need

  • 5+ years experience building complex distributed systems in Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot
  • Strong grasp of object-oriented programming, distributed systems, DDD, and architecture patterns
  • Experience with engineering best practices including Clean Code, TDD/BDD, and observability
  • Proven experience using AI coding agents like Claude Code, Gemini Code, or GitHub Copilot
  • Solid experience designing and implementing robust REST APIs
  • Professional experience with PostgreSQL and CI/CD pipelines
  • Effective leadership skills to guide mid and senior engineers
  • Strong collaborative spirit and clear communication skills

Nice to have

  • Experience with AWS and/or Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of Python or Generative AI frameworks (Langchain, RAG pipelines)
