Site Reliability Engineer - Nix/NixOS

About the role

This is a systems engineering position focused on NixOS infrastructure and development environments. You'll be responsible for packaging software for Nix, configuring backend NixOS infrastructure, and contributing upstream fixes to Nixpkgs.

What you'll do

• Package software for Nix and maintain development environments
• Configure and administer backend NixOS infrastructure
• Upstream fixes and software contributions back to Nixpkgs
• Manage server configurations in professional contexts
• Implement security engineering solutions and system sandboxing

What you'll need

• Deep knowledge of GNU/Linux and surrounding ecosystem
• Excellent knowledge and experience with NixOS in professional or FOSS contexts
• Hands-on experience configuring and administering NixOS servers
• Knowledge of network protocols including IP, TCP, UDP, TLS, Wireguard
• Experience with Rust development
• Experience with metrics tooling like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK
• Familiarity with SQL and streaming database systems
• Knowledge of application-layer security engineering including OIDC

Nice to have

• Experience with CppNix, Lix or DetNix development
• Knowledge of macOS system development and ecosystem
• Experience mitigating supply-chain security issues
• Knowledge of container-based and cloud-native architectures (Docker, Azure, AWS)
• Experience packaging Rust and NodeJS software with Nix
