Backend Software Engineer

About the role

Join Contentful's Entity Architecture team as a Backend Software Engineer, building next-generation systems that enable structured content to be connected, transformed and shaped for different digital experiences. You'll be working on foundational capabilities that serve millions of customer requests daily, powering personalized, AI-enhanced digital experiences at enterprise scale.

What you'll do

• Design and build core backend systems for dynamic content resolution and delivery
• Define and evolve APIs, schemas, and versioning strategies that can handle billions of requests monthly
• Solve complex engineering and Content Modelling problems across multiple layers and systems
• Implement deterministic, cache-aware execution pipelines with strong performance guarantees
• Develop on AWS, CloudFlare, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform platforms
• Own system production operations including observability, debugging and operational reliability
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to integrate with high-performance ecosystems

What you'll need

• Strong backend skills and knowledge of system design, performance and maintainability
• Experience owning, maintaining and improving complex, long-lived production systems
• Experience evolving APIs and data models used by other teams or customers
• Product mindset with empathy for customers including content practitioners, marketers, and developers
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguity and make sound technical tradeoffs
• Strong teamwork skills with ability to explain technical reasoning and be open to diverse opinions

Nice to have

• Familiarity with TypeScript, GraphQL and serverless applications
• Experience with declarative systems, data transformation pipelines and cache-heavy architecture
• Experience with content platforms, personalization, or similar systems
• Familiarity with AI tooling and leveraging it in daily work
